I'm only 9 months late posting this, ha!
For Charlotte's 6th birthday she chose an Ice Cream theme for her party. Because it was the end of her first year of big school, we decided to invite her whole Kindergarten class to help her celebrate!
We kept it pretty simple decoration wise. We stuck to different shades of pink and hung some crepe streamers and found a polka dot table cover. I used some empty glass bottles and jars we had laying around and filled them with some pretty pink flowers to decorate the cake table (2 bunches for $5, score!) The cake stand is just a pale pink spotted cardboard one from the party store.
I'm sure you've seen many versions of this cake floating around Pinterest! I was quite easy to make too. It's just 6 thin circle cakes stacked on top of each other, with either strawberry jam or Nutella inbetween. I did poke a long skewer through the middle because the cakes wanted to slide around once they had jam and Nutella in there!
We covered it in a light pink vanilla frosting.
The ice cream is just a store bought chocolate muffin flipped upside down. I did slice a little piece off so it sat nice and flat on top of the cake :)
I poured a chocolate ganache over the muffin and let it drip down the sides to create the melted ice cream effect. Then I poked another skewer into the muffin and put a waffle cone over the top. Easy!
The main attraction (other than pass the parcel and pin the cherry on the ice cream cone) was the 'Make Your Own Ice Cream Sundae Bar'. I bought a little plastic sundae cup and spoon set for each child and they lined up for a scoop of vanilla ice cream, then went along the table and chose their toppings. We had chocolate and caramel sauces, 100's & 1000's, mini m&m's, mini marshmallows, and mini oreo's. It was such a hit with the kids! They all went a little crazy with their creations, but I've never heard a children's party so quiet as when they were all shovelling ice cream into their faces!!!
We also made Puffy Paint ice cream pictures, which the kids loved!
I bought some cheap little canvases and cut up some corrugated cardboard into triangles, which the kids pasted on for the cones.
Then I mixed up 4 colours of puffy paint:
1Tbs SR Flour
1Tbs Salt
A few drops of food colouring
Water to make a smooth paste
The kids spooned on the paint to look like a scoop of ice cream and then we popped each one into the microwave for 10 seconds so the 'ice cream' puffed up!
{One Crafty Mumma has better instructions and pictures so you can see what the paint looks like all puffy}
And here is the invitation I made to hand out to her classmates :) The cute ice cream graphics are from Kim B's Designs
I hope you liked Charlotte's ice cream party!
