However, when we took her to the Fracture Clinic a week after it happened to get her proper plaster cast on (after the swelling had gone down) the Doctor noticed what the Emergency Doctor failed to see...that her elbow was also dislocated. So instead of getting a nice fresh white plaster, she was booked in for surgery first thing the following morning!
{getting x-rayed at the clinic, waiting to go to surgery, painting in the kids ward play room, lemonade ice blocks in recovery after she woke up from the procedure, back on kids ward watching tv with Fireman Sam and Rosie, the little bear her Kindergarten class bear who was allowed to go with her to hospital and her ID tag.}
Fortunately for Charlotte, once they got her into the operating theatre they were able to manipulate the bone back into place without making any cuts! So we didn't end up having to stay over night (much to Charlotte's disappointment haha, she loved the play room on kids ward and having her meals brought to her in bed :D)
{Pacing the halls with her IV pole waiting for the play room to open again, yummy lunch, painting, getting her cannula out and more x-rays}
I could not have been prouder of my little girl, she was so so brave, right up until she was wheeled into theatre and they put the gas mask on her. She was screaming to take it off and someone was squeezing my arm saying it was ok, the more she cried the faster the gas would work, and then she was out. Poor little chicken.
When she woke up she was not impressed about the cannula in her hand and being bandaged up "How am I supposed to paint like this?!" haha.
She did so well getting the cannula out too...until the nurse showed it to her! It was HUGE and covered in blood, so she got a bit upset.
We had her post op check up on Monday and everything is looking good, she just has to stay awkwardly strapped up like that for the next 4 weeks :/ She can't take the sling off at all so it's made the clothes situation a bit difficult! I also had to take her to the hair salon yesterday to have her hair washed! It was so much easier than struggling to do it myself and it only cost $6! Charlotte loved it too so we'll get it done a few more times while she's strapped up!
She's coping so well, she hasn't complained at all and hasn't had any pain which is a relief! Her bandages are putrid already though, imagine how they'll be in another 4 weeks *barf*
(I did take my big camera with me to the hospital..but when we got there I realised I'd forgotten my memory card :S Thank God for iPhones! haha)
Wishing her a speedy recovery!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad she didn't have to undergo surgery.
ReplyDeleteSending wishes for a speedy recovery. :)
Oh my goodness. She looks so tiny in the hospital. I am so glad everything turned out ok. I love your images and I am so delighted that you joined us at Communal Global for Tuesdays around the World. Thank you so much!
ReplyDeleteHopefully she will continue to do well and that it will heal quickly.
ReplyDeleteWhat a trouper! The shot of her with her IV pole seems to sum things up perfectly. I don't think anything could keep her down for long.
ReplyDeleteSo glad no cuts were made and that she was able to go home. Hope she heals quickly and is out of the bandages and sling soon!
